A Message For YOU (and me)
Posted: June 22, 2012 Filed under: Health, Tips 1 CommentYou are good!
You are smart!
You are awesomely perfect!
I wish my messages to you could compete with all the billboards, commercials, ads, movies, shows and mean folks that are selling you the opposite.
These mediums of media are all shouting that you need something MORE, something ELSE to be better.
Here’s another message from me to you:
You don’t need it and it won’t make you better!
Feeling groovy about yourself can be tricky when we’re constantly hit with messages that make us feel less than. I recently learned that we are bombarded with 300% more media than a mere 15 years ago, that’s a lot of input and most of it ain’t good.
Here are a few easy happy supplies I use to keep me on the up and up:
- A good quote like this one: “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment” (from Ralph Waldo Emerson)
- Happy, a fun documentary reminding me that contentment is not for sale (available for rent NOW)
- A “Things that make me smile” list: It’s not too long, not too short, it’s the simple stuff like, lemon in my hot water in the morning, sex with my husband, a hooded sweatshirt after a shower, a dance party with the kids, singing along to a Pearl Jam song (I sound EXACTLY like Eddie Vedder in my car – I swear).
One last thought for all the parents is that our kids are getting all this input too. It seems young girls are especially at risk, the recent film MissRepresentation does a nice job of highlighting some of the challenges facing our young female population these days.
I wish all you lovable folks out there a happy weekend.
